Directions
Sat navs generally don’t take you directly to Tongue Cottage so we would advise you follow these directions.
By car
From Junction 40 of the M6, head west on the A66 towards Keswick. At Rheged services roundabout continue straight for another 2.5 miles until you see a sign for Hutton on the left. Take this turn and stay on this road for approximately 3 miles. After passing a dairy farm on the left, look out for an entrance to ‘Lands End’ on the right then shortly after this you will see the entrance to Tongue Cottage also on the right. The entrance into the access road is narrow so do take care turning in. The road takes you down to Tongue House and Tongue Cottage. There are two gates that you will need to open and close as we have sheep grazing in the fields. Please drive slowly as you approach the house.
After the second gate, you will see a gravelled area for parking on the right. The parking space for Tongue Cottage has a stone wall in front of it with a sign ‘Parking for Tongue Cottage’.
*If you reach a T Junction at Bennethead with a large farm on your left you have gone too far. Turn round and after passing a derelict barn on your right, look out for the entrance to Tongue Cottage which will now be on your left.
By train
Penrith is the closest station to Tongue Cottage. As there is not a bus service to the area a taxi will be required from the station following the directions above.
