Ground Floor
The stable door leading into the cottage takes you into a cosy living room that hosts original stone and timber features and a sandstone fireplace. A double-sided wood burner, together with underfloor heating will keep you warm and snug on cold winter evenings.
Relax and unwind on the comfy sofa whilst watching a film on the 32 inch Smart TV or listen to music via the Smart speakers available throughout the cottage. There is a good choice of books available and a range of popular board games for your leisure time.
The living room leads into the dining room that shares the double-sided wood-burner. This room with its dining table and chairs provides a comfortable space for you to sit and enjoy a delicious meal and a glass of wine whilst talking about your adventures that day.
A beautiful well-equipped kitchen with all the utensils you need for self-catering is off the dining room. There is an amazing view of Little Mell Fell from the window. A breakfast bar provides a relaxed place to sit and chat whilst eating breakfast or lunch. There is an electric induction hob and oven, a generous sized fridge freezer, microwave and washing machine. A separate wine cooler adds a touch of luxury. There is an airer for drying clothes and an ironing board/iron.
First Floor
Stairs take you up to a romantic first floor carpeted bedroom that features a glass ‘balcony’ panel through which you can immediately see the true beauty of the room. Carefully chosen lighting together with a luxurious king size bed and high-quality bedding offers a special ambience for relaxing and sleeping. A large cast iron radiator will keep you warm and snug on cold winter days.
Off the bedroom is a stunning slate floored bathroom containing a free-standing copper bath from which there are views across the fields towards the Pennines, and a state of the art, fully glazed shower with a waterfall showerhead. The carefully considered mood lighting adds to the luxury and romantic feel of this room.
Next to the toilet is a beautiful natural stone basin and above this an illuminated mirror with attachments for charging a shaver and electric toothbrush. Luxurious towels and bathrobes are provided along with a range of toiletries.
Outdoor Space
Tongue Cottage has its own garden space comprising a slate paved patio with table and chairs, a fire-pit and BBQ. Outdoor (non-breakable) crockery, glasses, and utensils, together with a picnic blanket are provided if guests want to eat outside – whether that be in the garden or out and about during the day. The garden space overlooks the owners’ fields which are inhabited by their flock of pet sheep. Guests are welcome to explore the land if they wish to do so. There is parking for two cars.
Amenities
Included. All electric, heating, bed linen and towels included. Guests are asked to bring their own towels if planning to swim/ kayak etc in the lake. Free WiFi is available.
First basket of logs, starter wood and firelighters supplied for free and further logs can be purchased from the owners at cost or guests can purchase from local suppliers.
Welcome hamper: Including – Wine, bread, butter, eggs, milk, coffee, tea, biscuits.
Storage can be provided for bikes, kayaks, paddle boards etc on request.
Excluded: Sorry, dogs/ pets are not allowed.
There is strictly no smoking in this accommodation.
Important information:
The owners have three very friendly cats who frequently roam around the property outside and if left open, may wander indoors of the Cottage. Please consider this if you have a serious allergy to cats.
Tongue Cottage is a traditional Cumbrian dwelling with low ceilings and doors. If you are above average height, please be aware of this when you are moving about the cottage.
