News from Tongue Cottage and Special Offers

Spring at Tongue Cottage I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills… . Spring has reached us at last and the garden here at Tongue House and Cottage is full of daffodils. They also line the local roads and the lower banks of the fells. Seeing them really lifts your spirits.

Walking in the spring months – Nature is awakening. The trees are getting their new green shoots and wild flowers such as primroses and celandines are forming blankets of colour in the hedgerows. The lambing season has started and we never tire of watching these beautiful animals frolicking in the fields. Walking at this time of the year is fantastic. Even the popular fells are quiet, you can sometimes walk all day without seeing a sole. We’ve had some glorious sunny days so have been out on the fells as often as we can.

Tongue Cottage is an ideal place to visit at any time of the year, but currently its a perfect time.

We’d love to see you… please get in touch

Dating back to 1746, Tongue Cottage is a delightful one bedroomed property in Watermillock. An area of outstanding natural beauty within the Lake District National Park we are only a mile from Ullswater. It provides a unique location for walking, honeymoons, or romantic getaways. Tongue Cottage is perfect for that special anniversary, birthday or simply for those just wanting to relax.

Located next to the owners’ home, but still maintaining solitude and privacy, Tongue Cottage is surrounded by open fields and is a haven for wildlife. Red squirrels regularly visit the gardens, as well as a huge variety of birds – including greater spotted woodpeckers, tawny and barn owls, tree creepers and nuthatches. The natural pond within the grounds regularly attracts herons and greylag geese.

There are walks directly from the doorstep, including Aira Force and Gowbarrow (Airy Crag). Little Mell Fell, one of ‘the Wainwrights’, is directly behind the cottage. Ideal for an evening walk to watch the sun set.
